I'm in a ficlet writing type of mood, dear flisties!

Writing them will be my reward for getting various errands and chores done today (i.e. one load of laundry=one ficlet, etc.)

So, prompts? Pairings? Characters? Just no Snarry, as usual, and maybe I'm willing to try History Boys today? Sure, why not.

I'll do the first, um, five?? How's about.

Huh, well. Quantum of Solace was a different kind of James Bond film. I can't say I hated it, but I can't say I liked it either.

The story flowed in such a way that I kept waiting for it to actually begin. And we were halfway through the climax when I realised it actually was the climax, which is pretty damn sad. And while I applaud the writers' efforts in making the Bond Girl this time around have a good chunk of plot, intelligence and capability, Bond Girl felt completely wedged into the story just to get a "movie-long" woman in there. Ultimately, we could have lifted her right out of the story and it still would have ended up where it did. Also, while I love Judi Dench as M and want to see more of her all the time, there were a few scenes wasted on her with other talking heads, and I think the writers wasted the Big Plot Point with her that came at the very beginning. She should have been focused on the BPP, but instead, she spent her time trying to rein in Bond, which we all know isn't going to happen, as then there would be no movie.

All that said, this was clearly a transitional film for the Craig era, with new uber-baddies and and an ongoing subplot that could prove intriguing or get dropped like a hot potato. This film didn't drive me away from the franchise, but it was disappointing compared to expectations.

Believe it or not, I am alive. I almost posted earlier this week when I sent in my (very late) Snupin Santa (HP exchange) fic because OMG it was DONE and I was FREE FREE FREE at last!!! I could catch up on my f-list. I could SLEEP! And then I remembered I had to read and write critiques on five student stories, write four late critiques from the week before, study for a math test, read two of Aeschylus' tragedies and produce a five-page paper on the Odyssey all within... two days.

Yeah.

By Friday morning I'd been up for over 36 hours, and this was on top of getting only about eight hours of sleep in the three days before that. I'm pretty sure I flunked my math test that morning, and I probably shouldn't have told my Classical Myth professor that I was looking forward to doing my 20 page Senior Seminar paper with far more alacrity than the 10-page final paper for his class. At that point, however, I just really didn't care. I was practically giddy with delight because, reading and papers notwithstanding, I had no written assignments due until Dec 4th and OMFG I REALLY COULD SLEEP!!!! FINALLY!

And that's what I did. I got home by about 2:00 pm, slept until 6:00, was awakened by friends who wanted to take me to dinner, managed to rouse myself enough to do so, came home, fell asleep on top of some Bleach djs (another small pleasure I'd been denying myself for far too long), woke up at 10:30 AM still in my clothes and -- despite my best intentions otherwise -- have been a napping, brain-dead slug for most of the day. I did manage to get 2 loads of laundry done. Tomorrow I'll try and tackle some cleaning. I thought about trying to write -- you know, something that doesn't have a deadline?</i> -- but I think those creative muscles must need a break because it just wasn't happening.

Anyway, whew! I am alive and am giving myself a couple of days break. So... did I miss anything interesting?

Am in Different City! Which has been fun, but tiring. Shall return soon. Internet sporadic, if I owe you emails or comments, sorry! Also, am busy trying to finish fic in down-time hours this past week, of which there have been few. :/

I know it might not be a very interesting read, but I did have SO much fun doing it!  :D

Went to bed stupidly early since J had to and somehow I ended up waking up before his alarm, so I decided to just come in to work with him. He's busy baking all the pastries and muffins right now and I'm lazing around with a cup of tea and poking at some of Blue's fics that need beta'ing. Also apparently ranting...
